Mr. Kurt Nielsen – Friendly Talk #7

You won’t see me irked very often… but here I am, irked, turning into Don Knotts without fully intending to.

(By the way: BRRRR!!! It was cold in there. There must have been some Toros in the atmosphere.)

Sorry, Kurtie…I have to respectfully disagree…while I do think the news can be depressing, the reason why we got ourselves in this mess was because people became ignorant about what is going on and fell into a general malaise. I think people shouldn’t get sucked into the sensationalistic aspects of the news, but, I do think it’s very important for people to continue to keep informed.

I think it’s important to be informed, too… but there’s a difference between being informed and being inundated. Americans consume news — any and all forms — with little regard for quality or merit. It’s like going to a Viking wedding.

Legitimate news sources showcase material that is highly meaningless. I guess that’s what “people want”… or believe that’s what they want, based on what they are told what’s important.

We know more about that Hannah Montana kid’s exploits than we do our own neighborhood. I think that’s a rather sad state of affairs. I’d rather disconnect and find what’s really important in life.

But, Hannah Montana is magical! Magical, I say! :)

PS – Well said, Kurtie…I understand what you’re saying. Unfortunately, as our world and our communications system has grown broader, the competition has grown stiffer. And, when that happens, the sensationalism grows. So, I can see what you’re saying…but, I still can’t just not watch the news because, like it or not, it’s what we have and I need to know what’s going on.

PPS – Seriously, Kurtie…I’m very impressed with your writing. You really should pursue writing. You have a very colorful and expressive way of writing.
